Frequently Asked Questions
Short, factual answers about accounts, investing, trading, charges and how to reach us.
Accounts
A dematerialised (demat) account holds your securities in electronic form with a depository, in the same way a bank account holds money. Shares, bonds, ETFs and mutual fund units you buy are credited to it, and securities you sell are debited from it. The account is in your name and the holdings belong to you.
A trading account is what you place buy and sell orders through; the demat account is where the resulting securities are held. They work together: an order placed in the trading account results in a credit or debit in the demat account on settlement.
Submit the enquiry form on this website with your name, email, city, phone number and the segment you are interested in. A member of the SNNB Fintech team will contact you to explain the account-opening process and the documents required. We do not collect PAN, Aadhaar, bank details or any KYC document through this website.
Account opening is subject to the KYC requirements applicable at the time, which typically include proof of identity, proof of address, a bank account proof and a signature. The exact list and the process are shared by the team during onboarding - not collected through this site.
Investing
A Systematic Investment Plan invests a fixed amount into a mutual fund scheme at regular intervals, usually monthly. Because the amount is fixed, you buy more units when the NAV is lower and fewer when it is higher. A SIP spreads the timing of your investment; it does not remove market risk and does not assure a return.
A mutual fund pools money from many investors and invests it according to a stated objective, managed by a fund manager. You hold units whose value (the NAV) moves with the underlying portfolio. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks; read all scheme-related documents carefully before investing.
An Initial Public Offering is the first sale of a company’s shares to the public, after which the shares list on an exchange. Applications are made during the issue window through the ASBA or UPI mandate process. Allotment is not guaranteed in an oversubscribed issue, and the listing price may be above or below the issue price.
Market risk (prices fall), credit risk (an issuer fails to pay), liquidity risk (you cannot exit at a fair price), concentration risk (too much in one holding) and inflation risk (returns do not keep pace with prices). No investment product removes these entirely. Diversification and a suitable time horizon manage them; they do not eliminate them.
Trading
Futures and options are derivative contracts whose value comes from an underlying stock or index. They are traded against a margin, which makes them leveraged: gains and losses are both magnified relative to the amount placed, and losses can exceed that amount. This segment is not suitable for most first-time investors.
The normal equity trading session on the NSE and BSE runs from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST on trading days, preceded by a pre-open session from 9:00 AM. Commodity and currency segments follow their own timings. Exchanges publish a holiday calendar each year; always check the official exchange website for the current schedule.
Charges & tax
Brokerage is the fee your broker charges for executing a trade, calculated either as a percentage of turnover or as a flat amount per order, depending on the plan. It is one component of the total cost of a trade - statutory charges are separate. Use the brokerage calculator on this site for an indicative breakdown, and refer to your contract note for actual charges.
Securities Transaction Tax is a statutory levy on transactions in securities on a recognised stock exchange. The rate depends on the segment and on whether it applies to the buy leg, the sell leg or both. STT is set by law and can change; the rates used in our calculator are configurable and indicative.
Alongside brokerage and STT/CTT, a trade typically attracts exchange transaction charges, SEBI turnover fees, stamp duty on the buy side, and GST on brokerage and transaction charges. Depository participant charges may apply on delivery sales. The exact set depends on the segment and the plan.
